Christians know this and know it well that they should put God first. But in reality, so many things get in the way in their life. The enemy is lurking around with temptations and distractions that people easily shift their attention from God to something else. That causes their life to be in chaos, out of order, there is no strong foundation in their life and causes their life to easily crumble.
Imagine this. Your life is like a house and your heart is like a car garage. The purpose of that garage is to park your car where it belongs. But many people started filling their garage and use it as storage. Little by little they fill that garage with things such as tools, old junks, old clothes, trophies, and many boxes, that it fills up that garage that now they have to park their car on the street. Just park it somewhere.
There is a special place in our heart that God created that only He can fill it in there. And yet, like that car garage, we fill our heart, little by little, with a lot of junks such as hatred, anger, jealousy, greed, or worry about our families, our jobs, our social life etc that we pushes God out of our heart and park Him somewhere else and call on Him only when we need to.
We have to re-prioritize our life back in order and put God first and everything else will fall in place. Take all of those junks, all those things that shouldn’t be there in the first place out of our heart so that God can fill it with His presence, with His joy, His love and His peace that only He can give all of those. We will see how much better our life can be, that we will no longer be distracted when distractions come, that we stay strong in Him and live our life according to His plan that is a plan for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give us hope in the final outcome (Jeremiah 29:11).
Lord Jesus, forgive me for putting aside all of these times. I want to put You back as the first and the chief of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and guide me to always depend on You and clean my heart o’ God. In the Name of Jesus I pray.
